Course Goal:

Participants will learn about current products and trends in sustainable building and finish elements, such as construction techniques, home insulation, reclaimed wood, water conservation, carpeting, paints and more.

Course Objectives:

Gain knowledge of the wide range of home products available to the consumer for construction and remodeling of a sustainable home. Provide guidance where to find these products in your area and how to begin putting sustainable, clean products into your home!

Prerequisites:

None at all - come, learn and meet like-minded folks!

Course Format:

This is a one-day, 3 to 4 hour course including lecture, A/V presentations and scheduled breaks.

What to Bring / Need to Know:

Since there will be no 'hands-on' component in this workshop, no tools or specialized gear are needed.

Lecture topics include:

  • Passive Solar Design
  • Toxic Building Materials
  • Green Roofs
  • FSC Certified Timer
  • Embodied Energy, Buying Local Materials
  • 'Day-lighting'

Each student will leave the seminar with a packet of information and a renewed enthusiasm for moving their household or business toward greater sustainability and energy efficiency. Instructors

Noah Grunberg
Noah Grunberg is a designer and contractor with the firm JASONOAH design build. Founded by Noah and fellow designer Jason Silverman, JASONOAH has been building sustainable, energy-efficient, healthy homes since 1995. Trained at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin School, Noah has developed a keen sense of 'home' as an integral part of our earth. Noah's latest venture, Noble Home, aims to make that concept more accessible to all. Using modern prefabrication techniques, Noble Home offers green, affordable house kits giving homeowners attractive, environmentally sensitive places to live that fit within an average budget.

Important Information

Class enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, as class size is limited. To reserve a space please pay the entire tuition upon sign-up. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment, and you will be notified in advance if a class you had previously enrolled in is cancelled.


Cancellation Policy

For cancellation two weeks or more prior to class: If a participant cancels two weeks or more before the class start date, 25% of the tuition is non refundable. The remaining tuition will be reimbursed to class registrant.

For cancellation less than two weeks prior to class: If a participant cancels less than two weeks prior to the start of a class, the participant forfeits 50% of the tuition.

Take Exit 25A onto Hudson Street. Go about a mile to the 2nd set of stop lights and take a left onto Route 85. Take your first right onto Broad Street. Follow Broad Street for about 3/4 of a mile. On the left hand side after you cross a small bridge you should see a large brick building, known as the Hudson Mills Building at 43 Broad Street. Park in the front and take the main lobby elevator to the 4th floor. Our office is on the far Southeast side of the building. Follow the signs to find your way.
